White or yellowish white sparkling crystals with sweet vanilla and cherry aroma. Insoluble in water, easily soluble in ethanol, ether, soluble in propylene glycol and most non-volatile oils, slightly soluble in mineral oil, insoluble in glycerol. Easily yellowed by heat or light. The density in the liquid state is greater than that of water, and it’s stable in dilute acid and dilute alkali at room temperature.

Application

• Heliotropine has sweet bean and fennel aroma. It’s a kind of floral fragrance with light aroma and slightly bitter. It’s used in the preparation of various fragrances, from high-grade cosmetic fragrances to indoor fragrances, can be applied on soap fragrances, food fragrances, Tobacco flavour etc. It’s an important and popular flavour world widely and is commonly used in daily chemical industry.

• Heliotropine is suitable for the preparation of narcissus, violet, sweet bean flower and other essences, and its anise green aroma is suitable for the preparation of lily of the valley, carnation, sweet-scented osmanthus, acacia and other essences. Its aroma-fixing property can offer good coordination and aroma-enhancing effect on many kinds of essences, enhancing the aroma. For example, in the preparation of cherry flavour, it’s necessary to add Heliotropine in order to remove the odour of benzaldehyde. If mix the product with aniseol or aniseol acetate,  it can harmonise the aromas of plum, peach and vanilla bean essence. Heliotropine belongs to a floral fragrance, but it can be used in combination with non-floral fragrances such as cedarwood, eugenol, etc., and can be used as both a co-fragrance agent and a fixative. Heliotropine is also widely used in food flavours such as cola, shochu and various nuts.

• Heliotropine is used as a polishing agent in the electroplating industry, as an intermediate for the preparation of berberine, dopamine and other drugs in the pharmaceutical industry, as a food insecticide and a pesticide synergist, and as one of the main raw materials for the synthesis of alkaloids.

• As a fine chemical raw material with excellent performance and wide application, Heliotropine has broad development prospects. Dozens of derivative fine chemical products can be developed by using Heliotropine as raw material. These derivative products have potential application markets in medicine, pesticide, food, daily chemical and other industries. Such as Helional, which is used to prepare floral and fresh fragrances, and is applicable on high-end perfumes, cosmetics, detergents, and sprays; Piperonyl acetone, used to prepare fruit-flavoured and flower-flavoured essences, and is suitable for perfumed soaps and detergents; Piperonyl alcohol, used in daily cream chemical products; Piperonylonitrile, with aromas as bean, fennel and foundation fragrance. Heliotropine can also be used to develop medicines and high-grade antifungal and antibacterial synergists, intermediates sesame phenol, synergists for pesticide pyrethroids, methylenedioxyphenyl alkyl ether, anti-tumor and anti-hypertensive drugs. Intermediates and alkaloids and other downstream deep processing products.
